Hand-on learning activity for student to learn to budget and save money.

Students will create a grocery list. With this grocery list they will shop for grocery in the classroom grocery. There will be coupons to use to save money on certain items. Saving major amount of money involves using strategies like learning the value of using coupons (Wilder, 2010). The groceries will be items cut from different sale papers and magazines. Children are asked to bring their sale paper and magazines from home. Here the parents will get involved in the activity. They will help students find coupons in magazines and sale papers of different food items. Each item will have a price tag on it. The students will be given $70.00 to shop with. Each student will have to save $10.00 for gas pay for the trip to the grocery store. This activity is to teach students about how to budget their money at an early age. The coupons are there to teach them to take advance of saving (Wilder, 2010).

A blog is an appropriate technology to use for this hand-on activity design, because a blog can be shared with many people. They can come together sharing and saving coupons to save big money. They blog can give alert on the deals at the grocery store. With the use of saving coupons sometime you can get items for free. Saving bring emotional rewards and financial benefits (Wilder, 2010).

Using a blog for a learning tool allow inclusion and display of multimedia. Student’s response to or discussion of outside-of-class reading that are covered during class. Students can use the blog to present group and individual project (Hall, 2013). Students can use of blog for a learning help to prepare students for the 21st century. The blog can be used to be an online journal that encourages reflection and to encourage collaboration through the sharing of links to resources and up-to-date information (Dabbagh, (n.d).

The benefit of blogging is that it leads students into a stronger classroom discussion (Hick, 2013). Students can voice their opinions in a deeper learning. Each time students post a blog and reply to comments their engaging deeper learning and thinking. Teachers can have the opportunity to see how students are thinking and how they are communicating. Students can receive more feedback from teachers and other peers. Teachers can get students involved in a topic before the next class with the use of a blog post (Hick, 2013).One disadvantage of blog using it is public and any one can comment on it. People can leave rude and inappropriate comments on your blog. So it is difficult to find quality blogs (Lindsay, 2015).
